Hi,
what would be some good questions for a potential student to ask a current student to really get a sense of the school (as opposed to an admissions counselor).Any ideas from alumni interviewers would also be greatly appreciated. TIA!

It really depends on what you are interested in find out!

But in terms of some basic questions…
-What is your fondest memory of the school?
-What is the best part of attending this school?
-Could you recommend the best course or best professor at this school?
-If you were to do your education all over again at this school, what would you do different that I can learn from?
-On the weekends, do most students stay on campus? If so, what activities are offered?
-Where do most students hang out during free time?
-Is it difficult to manage school work with extracurriculars?
-How is the cafeteria food? Do you eat out often?

My favorite question to ask was “What’s the thing you dislike the most about your school?” If they give crap answers that apply to every college like “doing laundry” or if they try to BS you and turn it into a positive like “well it’s hard to think of a negative with so many great features like my Civil War class last semester…”, just pressure them until they relent. Everybody dislikes something about their college.
