Questions for students at Quinnipiac

My ap english class is currently doing a ‘college search’ project where we research schools that would be a good match for us. One of the requirements is to contact students from the schools in order to gain inside information. I’m really interested in Quinnipiac and if anyone could answer the following questions, that would be great.

Just some additional information: I’m planning on majoring in psychology and then going on the pre-med route.

How well does the school (professors, counselors, etc.) prepare you for further education and/or your desired profession and how much guidance do you receive?

In what condition are the dorms in and how often are they cleaned?

What are some of the activities, events, etc. that are big on campus? Are students generally supportive of the various teams, such as sports?

How much does the school help with acquiring internships and jobs?

What would you say is your favorite aspect of Quinnipiac? Least favorite?

Any additional information would be appreciated, such as things you wish you found out about before you applied, etc. Also, any information from students who are majoring in psychology or planning on going the pre-med route is appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I just finished up my Sophomore year at Quinnipiac and am more than happy to answer your questions.

The professors at QU are great and really apply the material to things that are relative to the real world. Each student is assigned an Advisor that you meet with at the least twice a year to prepare you for the upcoming semester, or answer any questions that you may have. Advisors range from the Deans, to professors to the Director of Career Services (which is mine). Professors are required to hold office hours, but are usually more than willing to help you and are generally always in their office when they're not in class. Most professors give out their home telephone number in case you need them, and answer your emails almost immediately.

The dorms are in fabulous condition and were the nicest of those I had visited when I was college searching. As a freshman you are either placed into a quad or a triple, with a hall bathroom that is cleaned daily. A sophomore is placed into suites with 8 people, where the suite's bathroom is cleaned weekly. As a junior you are placed into on campus apartment like buildings that house 7, and their bathrooms are cleaned weekly as well. Currently there are no senior housing but it is very likely with the new York Hill campus that there will be very soon. Unfortunately no one cleans the actually dorm itself, you have to do so yourself.

Basketball and Hockey are the main sports on campus and are a ton of fun to attend. They just built a brand new TD Banknorth Arena that was opened in January that houses both sports. There is a student group called the Crazy Bobcats that support the sports continuously. I am apart of Greek life, and although it is continuing to grow, it is not all that popular as of right now. The Student Programing Board hosts a variety of activities such as concerts (Yellowcard), trips and weekend events that are well attended.

The school is great with helping students get internships. I am a business major and the business school has it's own dean that deals with jobs and internships. I am constantly getting emails about internship and job openings. The Dean is always available for help, and he also sets up on campus interviews for Seniors for major companies like JP Morgan.

My favorite aspect of Quinnipiac is the location. The school provides shuttle services that run every 50 minutes to town and another shuttle to New Haven. Between both shuttles there are a tons of things to do such as restaurants, bars and clubs, bowling and shopping. The shuttles are extremely popular especially on Thursday and Saturday nights when students take the shuttle into New Haven. This allows students to not have to worry about drunk driving, and provides a free substitute. My least favorite thing is the parking lot shuttles, which for some reason I always seem to have a problem with them. Freshman are not allowed cars, but sophomores and juniors have to take a shuttle to get the parking lots, a process that should take 10 minutes but can take over 30 minutes.

Quinnipiac is one of the top up and coming schools, with the most beautiful campus I have seen. If you have any other questions please feel free to message me. Hope this helped!
