Hi I got accepted to CMU MCS and I'm planning to major in Physics, however I have a strong desire to supplement my studies with a double major in philosophy as well. (I've been independently studying philosophy for 7 years now and it's a passion of mine, some of my most influential philosophers are Wittgenstein, Hume, Bernard Williams, and Bertrand Russell) However.....I really don't want to take any Humanities courses other than those that involve philosophy (if its psychology & statistics, its fine cause they're kind of like sciences and mathematics)

I'm kind of confused about the requirements needed to take a double major in H&SS. Under the bold text, "How many General Education credits do you need?" it seems that other than computing@Carnegie mellon which is required for everyone, I can just take a bunch of philosophy classes which fits both the major and the GeneralEducation requirements. Then whats under "General Education Requirements Timeline" ? Do I have to take all 5 of those in my freshmen year with all the courses required for MCS too? I know I'm going to be busy with all the courses I'm going to take as a physics major, but I don't want to double in philosophy if it gives me unnecessary trouble and prevents me from succeeding in school. Since my primary major is going to be in MCS, are there some rules that allows me to skip certain requirements for H&SS students if I double? I know that as a secondary major with a primary major in another department, you can skip certain courses required for MCS students.
