Hi everybody! I'm a freshman at Iowa State University and I am filling out the transfer application for the University of Minnesota. I grew up and went to high school in Minnesota, and am now enrolled in the College of Engineering at ISU, majoring in software engineering.

I have some questions I would like to ask, and I would love to hear from people both currently enrolled and graduated. I would love to hear people's experiences at the U and whether they would recommend I try to transfer or stay at ISU (both are good colleges from what I've been told, the U being the midwest flagship school and ISU having high reputation with the engineering industry).

I apologize if this post leaves out some info or seems... choppy. I'm in class at this moment and alternating my attention between the teacher and writing this!

Which school is "better" for getting an engineering education in Software/Aerospace/Biomedical/Chemical (I know I might get a biased answer to this on this subforum)? I know it's what you do at college that matters, not which college you go to, but assuming my motivation is equal and constant at either one, I would prefer to attend the one that gives me the better edge.

That dreaded question: what are my chances? When I graduated hs, I applied to both the U of M and ISU, but I wasn't accepted to the U because I finished my application about a month after the deadline and their classes were full. I took college classes in hs from the U and received some credits for them, and I believe I will end this semester with decent grades, and I am confident I'll do better spring semester at ISU (I didn't do as well as I could have my first semester, but I think I've pulled my grades up a decent chunk).

As I'm filling out the transfer app, it asks what I want to major in, but I don't see Software or computer engineering (I believe that's "grouped" with Computer Science, but the two are very different here at ISU and I don't want to put that down if they aren't the same).

Does being a transfer with a decent ACT score (27), hs college credits, and being in the School of Engineering at ISU make me more likely to be accepted if I do finish the application?

It isn't the end of the world to me if I don't get to be at a school closer to home in the cities, and I'll probably take summer classes at the U when I go home next summer.

Again, I apologize if this could have been written or formatted better, I'll answer any questions about things that I missed (or if you just want to know more about my splendid personality B) (lol, kidding)).

Thanks!
