questions from a '10-er

heyy, im thinking of applying to wellesley and i have a couple of questions

1) just how much do u feel the all-girl impact? how close to boston is wellesley?
2) how competitive is admissions into wellesley? is it less competitive than say Dartmouth or Brown or other topc LACS (amherst, williams, swat)? i often hear that wellesley is a great "alternative" for females who are rejected from ivys and other top schools, implying that wellesley is still prestigious but perhaps less competitive in admissions? it might make sense since 50% of the nation's applicants are eliminated haha.
3) my sat score is 2030 (v 710, m 640, w 680)...would this be outrageously low for wellesley or just on the lower side or average? i will def be retaking in the fall but i would just like to get an idea of whether wellesley is a match or reach while i make a rough list of colleges i will be applying to.

Admissions are not as competitive as the ivies, but about the same as other top LACs.

Your SAT should be fine. Of course, you should still try to bring it up.

I don't know, I don't think Wellesley is as competitive as Amherst, Williams, or Swarthmore. As you said Senior06, half the applicants are elimated. If you look at the admit rates, Wellesley's is about twice as high. But I don't think people should necessarily use Wellesley as a second choice, backup for an Ivy League college or top coed liberal arts college. A less selective research university or less selective coed liberal arts college would be a better second choice backup. The atmosphere at women's colleges is very different...

1.) all girls impact is huge: not because you will be with girls 24/7 all the time and you'll get sick of them but b/c you WILL be with girls 24/7 and that is pretty empowering- they are all really smart girls and they will keep you on your toes, but you will have really important friendships and connections (besides, you might actually get some studying done in the meantime, you have the rest of your life for guys if MIT frat boys don't do)
2.) wellesley is pretty competitive as far as the liberal arts colleges go,and it really is 37% not 50% acceptance rate while Harvard is like 12% I believe and schools like Amherst are around 25% or so. But the only reason I really think that is is b/c it is an all-girls school and many people overlook it for that when they think about good liberal arts schools.academically wise, it's on par with some of the best of them.
3.)yeah, your sat's should be fine but do make the effort to bring them up
