Hey everyone, so I've decided that I'm transferring to UCF (if I get accepted) with an AA degree from UF in the fall. I have a few questions, though:
1. Is there a way for me to admitted to the honors program? I wasn't in the honors program at UF because my SAT scores and the like weren't applicable for it but I know they'd work with the UCF honors.
2. Does potential financial aid lower as a result of me being a transfer student?
3. Can I take classes at my community college in Tampa to count as my summer term?
Thanks!

Dude,
Let me get this straight,
You are currently enrolled @ Uf and ending your second
year in apparently good standing as you are about to obtain your AA degree and you want to transfer to UCF after taking some classes at your local community college ?
You OK ?

I would choose UCF over UF any day…

Agreed. Honestly, people HATE U of F, here in Illinois. Just a bunch of cocky, arrogant people who act like a drunk mess during their football games-not very classy. I’d choose UCF over UF any day, no matter if they gave me some kind of scholarship.

i’m actually a freshman in my first semester, I just have a ton of credit from IB and AP exams so I’d be able to get an AA after my second semester. I want to go to UCF for the hospitality major and because they’d give me more financial aid that doesn’t consist of loans.

Its not that hard to believe. Im probably getting into UF, but Im choosing UCF over UF

Are you wanting to transfer from UF to UCF solely for the possibility of increased financial aid? Have you considered and calculated the true amount and more importantly value of current savings vs. graduating with a UF degree that outside of the Orlando area will be in my opionion considered by employers more valuable (sorry UCF-and I am aware the Honors program at UCF is highly regarded)? Putting aside the athletic rivalries from other CC posts, you may want to consider the networking potential in and outside Florida having a UF vs. a UCF degree. Are you enjoying your experience at UF so far–it seems somewhat impulsive to consider transfering so soon. Ultimately you should enjoy your college experience at the school that best fits you. Good Luck!

If you’re refering to my post as ‘athletic rival’ that’s highly inaccurate, seeing as I could care less of the gators. Perhaps the OP finds the orlando area offers a much better opportunity, in terms of internships, then gainsville does. Perhaps gainsville does offer a bit of internships, but many UF graduates would be competing for them-orlando, hands down, has more to offer in that area. Also, maybe he just feels as though UF isn’t the school he belongs at-believe it or not, UCF is breathing down UF’s necks, more specifically in the engineering field. Another point I find worth stating, is those is that if this individual, say, plans to move forward to a graduate school, where you completed your undergraduate work isn’t all important. You can be at UF, and doing okay, but be at UCF, and have more experience and higher grades. Who are they more likely to hire? They would simply think of you as a ‘top’ student, simply because you attend a particular university. Your grades are the factor, along with work ethic. I feel as though the time is approaching when people are finally beginning to realize that ‘prestique’ isn’t important.

Two main reasons:
Even though my dad makes less than 20K and my FAFSA had an EFC of 0, UF gave me one measly grant of $50 for the semester and (not counting the highest level of bright futures and my pell grant), I had to take loans out of the butthole with barely a refund. All my friends from UCF say that they have at least 4K refunds and that’s without taking out loans.
Second reason, although I love to write, I don’t think an English major would necessarily help me be a published author. Instead, I want to work in the theme park industry and UF’s program for that is almost non-existent. UCF’s Rosen college looks miles better.
Anyways, can someone contribute to my questions? lol

In my opinion the so called prestige of uf is balanced due to the large number of internships and other networking opportunities orlando provides(in the medical field)

Plus 1.It really only matters where you get your grad degree from, and 2. its what you have learned and done, not where you did it

Alright guys, this isn’t a UCF vs. UF thread, I would really prefer if someone would try to answer some of my questions. Thanks.

Sadly…I really don’t think you’re going to get a clear answer from us. Eagle. We are, afterall, students and parents. I suggest calling UF’s office, or emailing them this question. I find emailing better, bemuse they’re more willing to help you.

Blah blah blah… I don’t see the point in arguing about this. Each school has their own strengths and weaknesses, let’s just be proud of living in a state with many great universities to choose from.
