My dad wants me to avoid getting my Associates and transfer into Rutgers Spring '10. So now several questions arise again. please bare with me : Since I dont have all the pre-reqs to apply to BS, I’m going to apply to SAS instead. Now will I be able to take business classes (mainly for the pre-reqs) im missing in the SAS?

How do you apply for Work-study? or am I better off getting a job around the Jersey area?

How did you guys go about finding extra money for college?

What other colleges would you recommend applying to in the Northeast with the same cost range as Rutgers?

Your help will be greatly appreciated guys. thanks

See if your community college has any information about scholarships. Also try websites like fastweb.com. Whether you get work-study is based on your FAFSA, but but I think that you can still get on-campus jobs even if you’re not in work-study (someone correct me if I’m wrong here.)

University of Pittsburgh might be worth trying too – they seem generous with financial aid (I got a full scholarship to their pharmacy program), and the education is on par with RU’s.

yes, mizuiro. you check the federal work/study box when you fill out your fafsa. and you can still get on-campus jobs, like at the ru press and working with certain academic departments without being in work/study. you can also be a tutor at the lrc (i work there as an ia for work/study), where you’d get $10 an hour for tutoring subjects such as precalc/algebra/calc/physics/orgo/chem/stats/stats for business/microeconomics and such. also as a computer tech at the oit labs ($10 hour as well, but you’d have to be interviewed and receive some training first. you also don’t need to know very much about computers to begin with).

and you can take the pre-reqs that you are missing in sas before you apply to the bs in december of your third semester.

ohh i just thought of some colleges. have you looked into the sunys/cunys? (five minutes after i wrote this question, I just realized that you are FROM NY soooo probably yes, right?) what i was going to say is that cuny baruch’s zicklin school of business is fairly reputable: [About Baruch College - Overview, Location, Honors and more](http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/about/glance.html) there is not any on-campus housing, but since you’re from ny, i’m assuming from the metropolitan area, that this won’t be a problem? anyway, tuition is $415 per credit. so, if you’re taking 16 credits, tuition would cost upwards of $6,600 a year. not too bad.

also, cuny hunter is a great school and oft overlooked. it is repeatedly named one of the best valued colleges in the nation, or at least the state. great area (upper east side, but you probably, most likely know that already). i mean, vin diesel went there. come on. it doesn’t get any better than that.

Yea Sunys/Cunys are the first colleges I looked at and I have friends at both Hunter and Baruch so I know a bit about both colleges. I really want to dorm and thats why I was looking at Sunys (mostly just Binghamton) and other schools around the Northeast. I’m planning on applying to Bing Spring '10 but I heard that it’s very, very hard to transfer into the SOM if you were not admitted as a freshman. So even if I was accepted to Harpur ( Bings Equivalent to SAS) it would be very hard to transfer into their business school. I’ll apply anyways because I got nothing to lose except for $40. :(

Is Rutgers NB BS better than Baruch?

I’m surprised no one has recommend other state schools like Connecticut or idk Penn State.

bleedgreen: i guess the only difference besides the obvious difference in location would be prestige. sas new bruns is more well-known and reputable than the others. and i belieeeve that even the tuition is the same. not sure on that one, even though i tried looking it up.

and i guess the only reason why i don’t really think about uconn is because i know some massive ***r who goes there, and i wouldn’t wish you or anyone else to encounter his ***y-ness there. but it is a good school, probably the same, if not better, than rutgers. and same for penn state.

and i don’t really know if rutgers bs is better than baruch’s. all i know is that it would save you some money if you went to the latter instead. and they both have fairly good, well-known business schools. so it’s really just a matter of personal preference. like if i lived in ny, i would prefer baruch.

Baruch is my “fall-back” school. I really want to dorm and any of Rutgers’ campuses would be convenient for me. I’ve been looking at Pitt and I think it’s also safe to say that I will be applying their for the spring.
