Hi :) my first post is given to U of M! Anyway..

I have couple questions on admission for transfer students, specifically for international students if it's any different from in-state/oos transfer students.

I'm not a typical int'l student, I've studied high school here (all 4 years), and has an A.A. degree in Liberal Arts from one of the cc in California. I am currently in Texas, because I thought I wanted to attend Texas A&M, but I found out more about U of M and fell in love with it. Weather wise, I prefer cold > hot. City wise, it is more metro than College Station, thus more convenient. School wise, they are tied according to U.S. News, but U of M's CLA department seems to be better than Texas A&M's. I've talked to the dean of Liberal Arts College at Texas A&M, and he told me I have no problem getting in (rumor has it as long as you maintain a 3.0 GPA, it's a guaranteed spot).

So my questions are..

Does the non-resident tuition apply to int'l students, too? Because I know there are schools with different tuition for residents, non-residents, and int'l students.

What does the admission at CLA look for in a/an (int'l) transfer student?

Does the country of citizenship affect the acceptance rate?

How is the network at U of M?

Any answer is appreciated, and thanks in advance!

Nvm on Q 1, I just found it on the admission’s page (sorry for not doing my hw before posting, I swear I’ve checked it before…) Now brings it down to Q 2, 3, and 4. :)

you should pay for non-resident tuition (as same as international students’), if you are not a resident in Minnesota.

GPA should be 3.3+, I guess.

Maybe.

I dont know.

Well its difficult for me to answer all the questions but I think the networks at Minnesota are great, at least speaking for liberal arts studies.

the network…as in the internet network?..as the computer center coordinator, i can tell you that it’s not too bad. there are problems occasionally but most of the time it’s fast and smooth.

the career network…which is probably what you are more interested in. it is very very good especially for Carlson students. CLA i’m not too sure but i can’t imagine that it can’t be too different and you can still attend any carlson events when you are not a student. and often events are held by clubs with no college affiliation. . but there are a ton of companies here and i have met people from Cargill, Land O Lakes, Wells Fargo, Citi, and other ones almost on a weekly basis. sometimes 3 companies a week. I’m eating lunch with an Alumni who was also in the same fraternity that i’m in now to discuss a possible internship over the summer with him at Target.

the opportunity to network is there, you just have to be proactive to get it.

I also have a question: My spring semester of CC ends at the end of May and I see the deadline isn’t until June 1st, so when will I need to send in my transcript for Spring '10 to be considered a transfer? I have 12 units completed and taking 19 units next semester…

So can I still send in my transcripts after June 1st?
