Questions on courses? (anyone a current student?

Thanks!

1.) How does the trimester and credit hours work?
- does graduation depend on number of courses or credit hours?
- how many courses does one take per trimester?
- how long are breaks between trimesters?
- if I got some APs, can I get out of one trimester? If yes, which one?

2.) What is the core Curriculum?
- Is there anyway I can get my hands on a course catalog?

THANKS AGAIN!

There is a course college available on Michigan's website.

Oops, make that "course catalogue". That's what I get for using Quick Reply and not paying attention.

its not a trimester, peopel get out of school early for summer, but its not really a trimester system.

If you are in engineering, your AP credits are pretty much worthless. u get 2 weeks for winter break, 1 week for spring break, and over 4 months for the summer. I think Michigan has like the worst system ever. TTT.

AP History is a good one to play, the 100-level history courses suck. ("Define the term 'serf'." That should give you some idea.) Bad things have happened to people I know who tried to use their AP Calc credit, at least in engineering, where you need at least a B to avoid taking the course over again.

NYao thinks Michigan has the worst everything ever. Your mileage may vary.

How many courses does a student take every trimester? How many credit hours are needed for graduation?

It's not a trimester system, it's semesters. You need 120 credits to graduate so I would advise at least 15 per semester. The allowable range (without special permission) is 12-18 credits per semester.

Are you allowed to skip a trimester/semester w/APs?

Depends on what you mean by skip I guess. You can graduate in as little as two years if you transfer a ton of AP's (60 credits is the max). I don't know if that constitutes "skipping" any semesters, but AP's do help get that elective credit out of the way if you desire.
