My college wants a LOR and a school report from my GC. I am applying to 30 schools but only 18 of them actually require a LOR from anybody. A couple of them just say it’s optional but my GC doesn’t even know who I am so it is probably not a good idea to send it to those schools right?
Does my GC provide the school report form or do I have to print it off from my college’s website or something?
I’m not actually going to apply to 30 schools but I have not had time to narrow my list. Since I am asking a LOR tomorrow, should I just give her a list of all 30 schools just to be safe? What would happen if she sends a LOR to a school I did not even apply too? My school is really old fashioned and sends all transcripts by mail and probably LORs too so would it be a problem?
Your guidance counselor is sending a school report to every school to which any of her kids are applying. It’s December; rest assured that she has already sent out hundreds this uear.
Letters of Recommendation are supposed to HELP you, not hinder your application process. At the very least, hers can tell the Adcom about the classes you’ve taken, your participation in leadership positions, and the opinion of faculty members.
Even without a mandated letter, why include some? To be honest, I would wonder why a kid couldn’t scrounge up even one letter, even if they were optional.
But know that a request for a LOR on December 4 may not get out before Christmas. Again, hundreds have gone out already, and there’s bound to be a huge stack already sitting on her desk.
