Hi there! I am going to be a sophomore this year and soon I will have to start thinking about colleges. I never really thought about which schools I wanted to go to, I don't even know that many, but I do know what I want my career to be; I want to be a doctor. One college I have been thinking about is Brown because my sister went there for college and medical school. However, I don't know if the things I have done will give me a chance at being accepted. Therefore, I hope that some of you can give me suggestions on what I need to improve in because starting this year I want to make up for my lousy freshman year.

Freshman year I took the three available advanced classes: Honors Bio, Honors English, and Honors Geometry. The other classes I took were Latin 1, Spanish 2, History, Health, P.E., and Graphics Design. I got A's in all of my classes except for Honors English; I got a B. As for extracurricular activities, I only participated in Student Council and Interact (a community service club). Out of school I have been playing the piano for about six years and continue to take lessons and learn Chinese.

This year, I am taking Honors Chemistry, Honors English, Honors Algebra 2, Honors World Civ, Latin 2, Spanish 3, Ceramics, Health, and Gym. I do plan to get an A in every class, but I may struggle with English like last year but I did get a tutor this summer so I might have improved. I plan to participate in Student Council, Interact, and probably one or two more clubs. I also will be taking the PSATs for a practice, on my workbooks I have gotten an average of 207 (my score could be a little lower or higher since the scaled scores on the book aren't official) which is basically my score without working on any of the practices in the book. I want to take the PSATs this year just to see how I will do and then figure out what I will need to work on for junior year.

In addition, since I really do want to become a doctor, next summer I will be volunteering at a hospital and a nursing home. This summer I wasn't able to because I was too young and I signed up too late.

So, is there anything you would recommend to stand out if I applied to a school like Brown? Oh, also if you know of any colleges that would be good for someone who wanted to become a doctor/might fit me? Thank you for your help, and sorry if I wrote too much!
