I plan on joining the FBI in hopes of getting to the HRT. I plan on joining the military after college but I want to know which degree would be best and what job during college would help if any. I also plan on graduating high school with an associates so I can transfer some credits and not take as long to get my bachelors.

Aim for the 25m target. Federal hiring is at a trickle or standstill. And when it opens back up… it is largely “check the block”. They usually explain their critical skills on their website. From what I’ve heard and read, the FBI focuses a bit more on civilian skillsets moreso than the other alphabet soup agencies.

The ideal candidate would probably look something like the following:
- BS/MS Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering
- JD (part-time)
- 3-5 years of work experience in the legal or IT field
- serving as in the Army National Guard in a combat arms branch with successful performance in duty assignments such as platoon leader, executive officer, company command or battalion staff
- if you want to be eligible for HRT, you need to come from a combat arms (Infantry) background at minimum but they usually look for more tactical experience. if you live near or in a state that has a LRS (Long Range Surveillance) Detachment/Company or the 19th or 20th Special Forces Group, you should give that a shot once you’ve completed your time as a platoon leader.
- critical language skills: Chinese (Mandarin), Russian, Arabic, (whatever the flavor is for the fiscal year)

…this plan probably gives you the most “bang for the buck” or boxes checked…
