Questions on NMS first school choice and housing application

• My son mailed the yellowish National Merit Scholarship first choice school card and named USC as his first school choice last week. When will he expect to hear from USC and how does it work with his trustee scholarship?
• He also submitted his housing application in February and has not heard anything yet. When will he expect to hear his housing application status?

Fight on!

Thanks!

"When will he expect to hear from USC and how does it work with his trustee scholarship? "
I can;t remember how or when we specifically heard back[ this was 4 years ago] but he will receive 500/semester from NM, in addition to his Trustee scholarship. He has to renew his NM Scholarship once a year in may-[no big deal, just check yes and send back the letter they send you]. The NM scholarship shows up on your USC statement a few weeks before the semester starts but well after the Trustee scholarship show up.

First of all, did your son find out if he became a finalist? Because you will only get the scholarship if you moved on to the finalist level…semi-finalists don’t get it.
If USC got the slip, it should be under ‘financial aid awards’ in USConnect and/or you should receive an email saying they have updated the financial aid awards.
Two awards should be listed: 1 for the half tuition scholarship, 1 for $1000 ($500/semester)
Not sure how it works with trustee though!

My son had the NM/Presidential combo. From his experience and other reports here, I believe the NM $1000 award doesn’t show up until after the semester has begun. That seems to happen each term; we pay the bill and then get a $500 credit per semester when it finally shows up. So if it’s not there along with all the other aid, don’t worry (yet)!
