As you may know from my other NU thread, my D is considering applying ED to the NU engineering and music programs. Does the ED contract mean that she must be admitted to BOTH engineering and music schools? For example, if she only gets into engineering but not the music program, she can then decide not to attend NU, right?
Also, out of curiosity, does the music school offer any talent scholarships based on the audition? I know there is no merit aid (and we will not get need-based) but some selective schools will still offer music scholarships.
Also, a $2500 National Merit scholarship is available at NU? We are waiting for the College Board letter on how to proceed on this. I believe daughter’s PSAT scores (1500/226 index) may put her in the running.
Here’s an older thread on the ED question for dual degrees, in which people seem to be saying that if a student gets into the non-music program ED but not the music program, it’s still binding. It sounds like an issue that it would be important to confirm with the university ahead of time before deciding to apply ED.

Bienen does give merit scholarships: “Each year, the Bienen School of Music will also award selective merit-based scholarships to those whose musical auditions demonstrate remarkable excellence.”
You need to formally declare NU as the first choice to access the NMF scholarship: https://undergradaid.northwestern.edu/types-of-aid/scholarships-grants/northwestern-scholarships.html#merit
I would contact NU directly to ask the ED question.
