My S is interested in applying to the School of Arts and Science at Northwestern University. According to the material mailed to us, it seems they will need three SAT subject tests. My S only took two, and we are wondering whether three SAT subject tests are required or recommended?

My S took SAT Math II (800) and Biology (750). Has anyone who only took two SAT subject tests were admitted to Northwestern University?

Also, for National Merit Scholarship Finalists, will Northwestern University provide any merit scholarship, and if yes, how much per year?

Thanks!

SAT subject tests are only recommended and it is not required that you take three

I got in last year with only 2. I took Math II and US History.

I overheard an admissions officer telling an applicant that they only recommend taking subject tests if they are a requirement at another to which you are applying. In other words, don’t just take subject tests for NU.

^I’m sure taking subject tests and doing well can only help you and not hurt you lol

Its recommended for a reason, y’know. :P

Yeah, its just fine having 2. I had took Math 2 and USH and got in.

They give scholarships to National Merit Finalists. It’s need-based (from $500 to $2000, I believe), and renewable for each year. This ONLY applies if you put Northwestern as your number one choice on the scholarship forms. Otherwise, you’ll get a one-time scholarship of $2500 from National Merit. You can only get one or the other.
