I know MIT doesn't use the common app, so there are certain questions I have.

Do they now look at AMC scores? I didn't apply to take it in my junior year, so can I still take AMC 12 in my senior year?

What do they want from the "Secondary School Report Form?" What kinds of things do they ask your guidance counselor or principal? They ask about disciplinary action and a recommendation, right?

Is it better to use their "teacher evaluation form" or your own school's form?

http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/the_freshman_application/index.shtml

There is a space on the application to write AMC scores, if you have them. The scores for your senior year will likely be released too late for evaluation, as MIT goes into selection committee in mid-February for RD.

It doesn’t matter if your teachers use MIT’s form or your school’s form, as long as your teachers provide the information for which MIT is asking.

@molliebatmit, what would you say MIT values the most out of its applicants?

^Not to jack the thread, but it’s a small question. If we took the AMC 12, but didn’t do really well, say a 67. Should I still write it in or just leave it blank?

leave that blank tmanne, you dont have to report your score

Oh, ok, haha. Thanks

Thanks, everyone.

Just one more question: How should you prepare for the AMC 12 exam? I’m planning on preparing over the summer, but I want to know how to prepare. I know that it’s a competition and that they don’t test specific things that you will learn in calculus bc or something. Are there any books that you would recommend?

I think the books that anyone would recommend is the Art of Problem Solving books, you can find them here - [Art of Problem Solving](http://www.artofproblemsolving.com). They also have classes, and even if you don’t want to spend the money on books or classes, there’s a wiki, past tests, contests, and a messageboard you can use to prepare. So yea, there’s a lot of stuff you can find there.

^Yea, AOPS is pretty much the main source of stuff to doing well on it
