Questions on transferring (sorry)

Hi, I'm a freshman at a cc and I have some questions regarding transferring.
Would getting a C or D in one of my classes affect my chances on transferring to a school like NYU?

How competitive is NYU transferring process?
I'm planning on finishing 2 years at my cc then transferring to NYU but my high school grades are terrible. Would this affect me? What GPA range do I have to shoot for to have a chance there?

Thanks.

You need top grades to get into NYU, so yeah, a C or D would set you back a little. And yes, terrible high school grades obviously affect you.

If your HS grades are bad, transfer after 2 yrs not 1. Try not to get any C's or D's! Aim for close to a 4.0 as possible. Most transfers have 3.7 +, but coming from CC, you'll want to impress them, since a 3.7 from CC isn't as impressive as a 3.7 from a Tier 1.

Also, the competition depends on which NYU school you're applying to - with Stern, it's very difficult to transfer in, and that's for students who did well in HS and very well in their colleges.

I am a freshman at NYU and have met a lot of NYU transfers, most having transferred after freshmen year. They also said that it is nearly impossible to transfer to NYU after sophomore year so if you really want to come here then it's best you apply asap! It is also very very competitive so you should make sure that there is only one B and the rest are As on your report card basically.

lynn4eva is right that it's harder after soph yr, however, since you had terrible grades in HS, if you apply for soph transfer, your HS grades will matter more since all they'll see for college is 1st semester.

i should've dropped the class before the deadline but i was a day late. damn...
and wow, i was planning on transferring after my 2 years but after seeing these responses, it looks like i won't be going to nyu which is my dream school. my other choices are uga, georgia tech, and maybe, emory. which of these schools is the best for a business major? and how difficult is emory?

whoa no one said you can't get into nyu, we just pointed out it's hard to get accepted. if you do really well in college you can trasnfer after 2 yrs, and they won't even care about hs grades. don't give up if it's your dream school. emory is also hard to get into, I don't know about the other 2.
