questions on UMCP's admission....

Hi,

Does anyone know how UMCP's admission works?
Does College Park defer E.A. students to the Regular Decision pool if there are not accepted early action?
If College Park does, then can one send October SAT/ACT score and still meet early decision requirements/deadline?

UMD does not have an EA/ED/RD process. If you apply and have everything in for the November 1 priority deadline, you have a better chance of getting admitted, and the only way to be considered for merit aid, special programs, etc. is to be in by this date.

Do you already have an SAT score and you want to retake in October to improve it? In that case, I think you can apply, send your current score, and then send the updated score from the October test. If you haven’t taken either the SAT or ACT yet, if you wouldn’t get the scores back before November 1, then I think your app falls into the “regular admissions date” pool. It is not a matter of being deferred from one group to another. You’ll either get admitted for Fall 2010, get a Spring admit for 2011 (seemed like that was what happened with a lot of the “regular” admission apps this year), or not get admitted. Good luck!

just one quick thing to add, admissions said to try and have nov. scores sent, and they will work to review them with the rest of your application for the priority deadline, but that it isn’t guaranteed. So, if you want to get your score up, still send what you have, send them in Nov. when you get them, and they’ll do their best to review your application with those newer scores, otherwise they’ll use the ones they have. But they said they are trying to review them.

Did that make sense? Hope it helped some

I don’t think ill be able to get in through Priority application. My GPA is good (3.7) but my SAT and ACT are low (1700, 24). Any advice? Maybe I should apply after priority and of course before regular deadline?

No, you are much better off to get your application in early (before November 1). There are lots of people who have “low SAT” stories that got in; your GPA will help you out. Delaying your app decreases your chances of getting in. Have your October scores submitted, and just email admissions when they go out to make sure they update your records.

i definitely DEFINITELY agree to apply priority, that’s when around 90% of the class is accepted, and since it isn’t binding or anything, you don’t have anything to lose.

I’ll try to to apply as early as possible. I think i will contact the admission office for further details.
