Questions on UMich GPA and Admissions

Are admissions truly “rolling”, meaning that I can apply whenever?

Is it true that Umich GPA…
a. Is only based on your soph and junior years?
b. Unweights your grades?

I need to know because I am taking a lot of AP classes which have been weighted to become A’s, and if they unweight, my GPA goes from a 3.9 to about a 3.4

and by weighted i mean if i get an 85.. i get a 95

Earlier the better, always. Makes a ton of difference. Not a good idea to apply late.

a) yeah
b) yeah

i know this is going to sound repetitive... but this means that by challenging myself, i just screwed myself over? People at my school rely on those ten points to help their grade.

So michigan just takes away the ten points that i challenged myself to earn?

yup that's the story....welcome to the world of UMich admissions......Don't be too upset though...lots of people (like you) who have challenged themselves
are rewarded by great schools other than UMich.....

They definitely take into account Strength of Schedule.

It's just your GPA- lest we forget, they'll still see your grades from freshman year and take that into account as well.

rodney: why do you sound so pessimistic lol? it isnt just umich admissions, a vast majority of colleges look only at uw GPA, but also strongly consider strength of schedule, like mich does.

I'm not necessarily pessimistic; More realistic....Our high school has rampant grade deflation; Only at UMich do we have "admission problems" because of it....A couple of reasons why:

1) many AP/Honors students even in top 10% have alot of B+ ....other schools that consider UW averages give credit for B+ vs. B-, B (and yes, we are talking about SAT's and ACT's way above average 1400/32)

2) According to Naviance, they have only accepted those from our school in the top 5% of the class...(i.e. those who have mostly A's, A- on transcript)

3) Most of the students described above eventually receive offers of admission to many of the top 20 USNWR, but only UMich rejects them....

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but unfortunately the reality of the situation around here is that UMich is not a good "fit" for us........

Given all of that, many of the above group sent in their applications in the beginning of October and have not heard back yet....Dec 21st is the date right?...Didn't mean to vent....just very annoying....
