call me an idiot but what are UL-listed extension cords? And halogen lamps are only for outdoor things like cars, right? I'm also guessing that bringing a "small carrying case or plastic bucket to carry toiletries" is optional.

Just fyi, I got this from a list of "what to bring" printed on the "welcome to campus" pamphlet received at orientation.

UL is Underwriter’s Laboratory which certifies electrical appliances as safe. Any extension cord you would buy at the store would probably be UL-listed. Look for the seal on the label. Their point in asking for these kinds of extension cords is to cut down on the possibility of a fire. There are halogen lights for indoors and they burn very hot which is why they are not allowed in dorms. Of course the bucket is optional. You can carry the stuff in your hands or put it all in a bucket and carry it to the bathroom. I would guess that if you are a boy you would do the former.

doubly noted. thanks. and yes, i’m a boy and will do the former.
