Questions questions...and more questions

<p>so i decided to cram all of my questions concerning UCSD in one thread instead of posting 3 separate ones. this calls for expert know-how you guys…i’m getting paranoid about what college to choose. eeee…</p>

<p>1) are there any note-worthy dance teams/clubs/groups on campus?<br>
2) how’s greek life?
andddd…
3) what do UCSD students usually do over the weekend? go home? stay in their dorms and study? party hardy?</p>

<p>"1) are there any note-worthy dance teams/clubs/groups on campus?"</p>

<ul>
<li>During Admit Day, the Warren College was holding its own shows (I think Muir might have gotten some of the same entertainment). An impressive Hip-Hop Dance group, Ascension, performed. As an actor, I found their precision and timing with each other impressive. As for other ones, I dont know; however, the La Jolla Playhouse, a nationally-reknowned theatre, is right on campus, and the graduate program at least for theatre is one of the top in the US. Knowing those, I'd imagine their Performing Arts in general very strong. </li>

<p>"2) how's greek life?"</p>

<ul>
<li>Admissions made very clear throughout the day; UCSD is by no means a party school. La Jolla has laws in place not allowing the Greek houses in the area, and therefore UCSD will not give the Greeks their own buildings. While a small force on the campus, it still is there to pursue for those interested. Its just by no means a huge force on campus. They're more quasi-Greek as they put together stuff to go do and such. Its nothing big or impressive, but its there for those who pursue it. </li>

<p>"3) what do UCSD students usually do over the weekend? go home? stay in their dorms and study? party hardy?"</p>

<ul>
<li>The campus during weekends is dead. Its definitely not the place to be on the weekends; almost everyone ends up somewhere else other than the school. Many end up at the beach. Many end up taking advantage of the San Diego Bus System to go off and do other things in San Diego itself (as La Jolla isn't much of a college town). Some end up having a friend drive them down to Tijuana, or take a train up to LA. Some decide to take advantage of the time to study. Basically, for those who decide to go do something, there will be others who want to as well. Find your group of friends, and do what you like to do.</li>
</ul>

<p>If the weather is good you can tan out in front of your college, go to parties.
From what I hear, greek life is a great way to make new friends and have a built in support network for you on campus. Also, since it is academically competitive, it gives you motivation to not let your grades fall.
There are 8 sororities and 8-9 fraternities and they do things together but during rush week or beforehand, they cannot tell you what frat or sorority they are in. IMHO, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Pi Beta Phi, (sororities) and Alpha Epsilon Pi and Tau Epsilon Kappa or whatnot sound like the best. I'm going to rush for AEPhi.
Plusif you google "ucsd" and "organizations" you can easily find their websites and email the members. They are very open and nice from what I have experienced.
There are over 350 clubs on campus. I'm sure there are dance teams. UCSD is a Div II school so there is some spirit and its not owned by football like USC is. The clubs range from political to "Sun God party" and "communists" and che cafe club. plus there are cultural ones like the cambodians to the Greek orthodox. Very very diverse!
UCSD is not a kegging sort of a school. You can always befriend those kind of people at SDSU.</p>
