Questions Regarding Application Status

Hello! I had a few questions about my application status and I hope to get some insight. I recently applied to Tulane as a transfer student for the upcoming fall 2012 semester. My application was submitted on the 11th, I believe, and I sent my college and high school transcripts around the 13th. The status on my Gibson account says I am still missing both of these transcripts. I emailed the undergrad office and they told me they were processing the documents that they had and to wait a couple more weeks. I was not sure if they meant they had my transcripts already or if they were just processing my application, essays, and course descriptions. The deadline for early notification is February 1st. So I want to know if I should call and try to get this sorted out before Wednesday or just wait it out? Also if they do not finish processing everything till after February 1st, do I automatically miss out on the early notification even though I applied early?

Thank you for any help!

If you got everything in by the deadline, they will handle you as early notification even if they are being a bit slow getting everything processed.

Thank you very much for the quick response. I was a bit nervous about not being considered for early notification. Also I had another question to ask you if you have time. I read on some of the posts here that signing up for a visit might play a role in the admission’s decision for students. To me it does not seem like it would significantly increase one’s chances, but do you know if it would assist at all? I really want to visit Tulane but I do not want to jump the gun and visit to soon then not be admitted.

To add on to my previous comment; I did not mean to make that question sound repetitive lol. I am really curious to know if visiting before being accepted plays any sort of factor in the admission’s decision. However my main concern would be visiting too soon in the hope of that being true instead of waiting to see if I am accepted.

Well, I don’t quite understand your question, but it sounds to me like you are asking if you should visit before you hear from them if it helps your chances of getting in, or after you hear, assuming you get in. Is that what you meant?

If so, then it kind of depends on whether you are really set on Tulane even without visiting. But meeting with admissions and showing a strong interest in Tulane certainly can help. Like most schools, Tulane wants students who have a high level of interest and a good reason for wanting Tulane over other schools. But if money is tight and visiting would be a bit of a strain on your budget, I can understand wanting to save the money if they are not going to admit you.

There is no right answer, but I would personally favor being optimistic and going to visit, if you think your chances of getting accepted are fairly good. I don’t know your grades or any other background about you, but if they generally meet Tulane’s standards then by going you 1) increase your chances of getting accepted by showing interest; 2) make the trip you would have made anyway with the bonus of probably helping yourself; and 3) get a little vacation, always a nice thing. Just watch the calendar for Mardi Gras, you don’t want to be visiting too close to that.

Good luck!
