Hi Everyone! Long time reader, first time poster.
So, I am a incoming Sophomore at a two year community college in Texas, and I am looking to transfer to a four year college in the Spring of 2017.
So far, I have narrowed down my search to three:
UMass Amherst (My first choice, but a reach)
UMass Lowell
University of Texas at San Antonio
I will be applying to Lowell with a Marketing major, and Amherst and UTSA with Sport Management.
The questions I have are:
- What is the minimum GPA I should have for a business transfer for each of these schools? (I will have around a 2.8-3.0, I am currently taking summer courses)
- What does a "transfer friendly" school really mean? Lowell states that they are a "transfer friendly" school and I am curious to what this really means.
- And lastly, what other schools would be a match based on my GPA alone? I want to do business majors, nothing else.
Thanks everyone, and if you have any other questions, let me know!
Are you in-state for Texas or Massachusetts?
I am in state for Texas, but I will be using the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program to receive in-state tuition at the Massachusetts schools. @siliconvalleymom
To answer question number 2: “Transfer friendly” means they will go out of their way to accept your credits from CC and apply them to your degree. Some schools are sticklers for accepting transfer credits and would not necessarily give you credit for your courses taken or may only apply them to general education credits. These schools would not be considered “transfer friendly.”
University of Houston and Texas State could both be good additions to your list
Any good schools in Massachusetts for me though? I live in Texas and I really want to leave. I have family in MA, and I love it up there everytime I go.
Would UMass Lowell be considered a safety for me? The minimum GPA for Business is a 2.5…
I got into UML as a freshman with like a 3.08 or something like that. UML is really easy to get into as an in state student but recognize that even if you get in state tuition they still most likely see you applying as an out of state student. I doubt UMA will work out for you. It is extremely competitive especially the business school. I would say you would need at least a 3.3-3.4 to maybe get in at all. If you want to be competitive go look at the schools. They like it when you show interest. Go tour, meet with people and request information to your house. It all looks good to them, most schools keep records of that sort of stuff. Try some summer courses to boost ur GPA, even if they don’t transfer in the end you can spend like 6k this summer taking a couple of GPA boosters at a community college or something and then your chances of getting accepted will increase.
I know UMA is a huge reach for me, but I believe that miracles can happen. I only have a 0% chance of getting in if I don’t apply.
What would you consider a good GPA for UML transfer? Would I be a match? @LCatherineG
