Hi,
First off, should I take Honors Geometry or regular Geometry?
My overall grade in Algebra 1 College Prep (my school only offers this course as a CP course) and got an overall grade of a 96%. But, I have fine motor skill issues. Will this affect how I do in this course? Am I doomed?
My Schedule:
Honors Biology (very good with life science, Intro to Biology (7th-grade course) and got a 94% overall.)
Honors English (I hate reading but I love writing. My teacher recommended me.)
Honors Global Studies 1 (I got a 95% overall in 8th grade Social Studies!)
Honors or College Prep Geometry? (See above.)
Spanish 2 College Prep (Will this affect my chances of getting in a top-50 college? I got an 89% overall, but Spanish is not my forte.)
ECs:
BBYO (Jewish youth group)
Science Olympiad
Stock Market Club
Student Council
Take the courses that you feel will allow time for ECs and you know you will be successful in.
I don’t understand your question? If Spanish 2 CP is the only secondary Spanish course available in your school then take it. If you do not feel strong in Spanish then take another language course (if you can). I suggest just pulling through it if you cannot find another foreign language course since a great number of colleges recommend or require at least 2 consecutive years of a foreign language.
Don’t put so much pressure on yourself during freshman year. Colleges don’t put a lot of weight on your first year in high school. Freshman year is a time explore your interests - don’t have all your time consumed with homework or concerned about what colleges want.
If you are a strong maths student and feel confident in your math skills, take Honors Geometry. If you are shaky or math isn’t one of your best subjects, go with regular Geometry.
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. That’s a lot of honors classes- manageable, but make sure you have time to explore extracurriculars and hang out with friends. Freshman year is the year you ease into high school.
I’m not sure that “fine motor issues” should impede your ability to do well in Geometry; what exactly do you mean by fine motor issues? In any case, you seem like a good math student so I would suggest you take Honors Geometry. I would say the same for Biology and GS.
Honors English, I would think twice about. Three honors classes should be plenty, and even if your teacher recommended you it’s probably going to involve a lot of reading. As someone who also hates reading, it might not be worth it. And your attitude about Spanish concerns me; you shouldn’t organize your schedule based around what you think will look good to colleges, especially in your freshman year. I’d stick with Honors Geometry/Bio/GS.
