We are about to begin the process of completing the FAFSA and CSS for my D who is already a freshman at a private university. We did not do any of this when she was applying to colleges because we weren’t in need of FA and didn’t really expect to get any. Now, we will give it a try.
Any tips about the process that might be specific to our situation? That is, a returning student applying for FA for the first time?
Also, how much of the process must be completed by my D? Can we do most of it without her help? Since she is away at school, I’m hoping to be able to do most of this without her.
Thank you!

I did. I need to complete the FAFSA and CSS. That’s why I posted the question.
FAFSA: https://fafsa.ed.gov/. The student and you will need PIN at https://pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/pinindex.jsp for electronic signatures.
CSS/Profile: https://student.collegeboard.org/css-financial-aid-profile
In many families, one person (parent) does the whole thing. Technically, each person is supposed to get their own PIN, but the truth is many parents (or sometimes students) do the whole thing.
Thank you mom2. Also, since she already has a College Board account, do I use hers, or do I need to set up a separate account?
