<p>Anyone in a given school can take the AMC, if it is given at your school. The AMC is a pretty easy test, thought scoring above 100 is sometimes a matter of luck more than skill. There are two versions of the test -the AMC 10 for sophomores and freshmen, and the AMC 12 for juniors and seniors. If you score above 100 on the AMC 12 as a sophomore or freshman, that’s a definite added plus on your app (but I don’t believe you can qualify for the AIME as a soph/frosh). If you score above 100 as a junior/senior, you can take the AIME, but I warn you - it’s very, VERY long. I took it as a junior, and only got ~4 problems right, which isn’t too bad, but a score of ~8 would be more application worthy.</p>
