Questions regarding ECs

Do colleges prefer varied ECs or is following a passion good ?

Do these ECs have to be connected with your prefered major ?

I'm currently going with ECs I just love (Political Forum, Debate, Philosophy, SGA etc).

None of these is connected with my intended area of focus in college (Biological Sciences and Business Administration).

Is this good ?

Anyone have an idea ?

Having varied activities is great--it shows leadership, excellence, willingness to follow through--but you also need to show passion for something specific.

For years, it seemed to switch between the two: colleges want you to be well-rounded, then they wanted you to be passionate about one thing. Seems they wanted both the whole time. :P

ECs that show passion (focuses and targeted ECs) are better.

You have that, by the way - (Political Forum, Debate, Philosophy, SGA) can't you see that these are related? Your essays could focus on how these will prepare you well for Business Administration (in which people skills/networking/sales/leadership are all "musts"). Just put on your thinking cap and make them "fit" - it won't be hard; they already do.

I do see them that way. However I read in (too many) "What are my Chances ?" threads that varied ECs are better.

But whatever they say, I really enjoy my current ECs.

Thanks Pearl and Kyle.
