Hi guys, I wish you all are ready for the deadline :D

I have some simple questions about MIT's essays
1- is it fine to exceed the words limit? (less that 10%)
2- How important is to write the background essay? If I do, does it need to be unique (in style)
3- In the Word essay, can I write -mostly- about my family member who influenced on me most?
4- in the Optional writing
is it good to write that I self-studied most of the materials of math and physics for SAT2
and that my school does not have extracurricular clubs -except 2 I started :)- and that there is no competitions in/outside the school?
BTW, I am international

Another Question
Can my recommenders submit the recommendations after 1 Jan?

The application system will not allow you to submit the essay if it’s too long. There is some hard limit, which IIRC is around +10%, but to be on the safe side, keep your essays under the stated limit.

The optional background essay is truly optional, so you can write it or not depending on whether you feel you have something to say in that space. For the other essays, you can write them in any way that addresses the prompt.

Recommenders have previously been able to submit recommendations after the application deadline, but I’m not sure how that will work now that the recommendation system is online only.

It’s really hard to answer #4 – yes, you can write that, no, it’s not a problem, but it’s tough to say if it’s “good” to write it. If those are points you feel are important and not addressed elsewhere in the application, then feel free to discuss them in the optional section.
