Hey guys, so I am an international student who is attending high school in the states. I noticed that there is a language requirement for UMich admission. I have only taken one year of French and one year of Chinese in my 9th grade. I am currently applying to LSA, is there a problem with my application?
Take subject tests in December in both French and Chinese. Etuy to score as high as you can.
Most selective colleges will expect you to have 4 years of foreign language or o have reached level 4 or AP in one.
UMichigan may find your application deficient if you only reached level 1.
Call them ASAP, be ready to indicate You’re taking the foreign language subject tests in December.
The Chinese subject test is currently only offered in November.
Thank you for your response, but I am from China though. Should I still take it?
We’re you in ESL when you arrived?
I guess that taking the test is better than missing an entire area of knowledge, but if you didn’t take English as a foreign language things could be problematic depending on the college.
I think this is a question you should ask the university/your admissions rep directly. This answer could vary at every college.
