Hello, I’m currently a high school junior who is planning on taking Intro to Psychology at my local community college during this summer and want to apply as a psychology major for college. Was wondering if there were other community college classes I should take for the future during my senior year?
This is a bit too vague to answer. Are you asking about these classes to position yourself for college admissions? If so, how selective are the colleges you’d like to attend? Have you been taking the AP classes offered by your HS?
Also keep in mind that CC classes are for keeps. Even if you take them as a HS student you will always have to list them on your academic record where it asks for all colleges you have attended, and it will be part of your college gpa calculation. Which means you need to understand the drop and withdrawal deadlines at your CC and if you aren’t doing as well as you hoped this summer then it would be prudent not to stay enrolled.
I’ll caution you against taking other psych classes at community college (CC). My son is a Psych major and his intro to psych through CC was 3 credits, but his college classes are 4 credits so he is one short and has to take another whole class to fill the requirement, plus it made some classes that have Intro to Psych as a prerequisite difficult. Just a caution! It is also somewhat of a pain to get your CC transcript to send into admissions or for credit.
You don’t need to take psychology at a CC to apply to college as a psych major. In fact you might be better off taking Intro. to Psych at the college you ultimately attend.
Yeah, sorry for the vague question. I looking to apply to UCs and some private schools like USC and Stanford but want to position myself for college admissions when applying for psychology major. My high school only offers regular psychology and it didn’t fit into my junior year schedule. I’m currently talking Intro to Psychology during the summer which is basically AP Psychology in high school terms. Thank you.
