Questions regarding the application.

I just thought it might be a good idea to have a place for us all to post our questions regarding the pton application, so that if anyone has the same question, it might be already answered.

My question is, for the spaces on 'Academic Honors' 'employment' and 'summer experience', should i still list them if i have already included everything in my resume? Esp for the academic honors one... should i even bother listing all the contest placements?

yeah, list on both. The resume (if you're sending one) is for going into more detail/listing minor awards. List major awards if there isn't enough room for others. The bronze in 9th grade Science Olympiad isn't quite as important as a state university research award, for example.

How do you type in the PDF file?

i meant submitting it on a separate piece of paper... and attach it to my app. does that sound feasible?

To type in the .pdf file, be sure to use the one that says "editable .pdf file." Then simply click in the desired space and starting typing.

And as far as application format questions go...guys, is it really that big of a deal? Unless you are soooooooooooooo UBER CONFUSING with respect to setting up your app, you're not going to be rejected over it. Use common sense.

I'm using the printed one and filling it out with a blue ballpoint pen---a Dartmouth adcom said that was actually easier to read on the app itself as long as the applicant has good handwriting. Apparently the blue pen vs. black print makes the responses stand out while black print on black print doesn't. (Of course, that does not apply to the essays.)

im using page maker

some places require black ink

I know Brown does. I don't think Princeton specified, though.

Princeton wrote "please print" on their apps whereas others said "please type or print in black ink"... does that mean that they prefer students to fill out the applications by hand (if using the paper app)?

i dont think they care and i doubt they would prefer handwritten over type. type is a lot neater

For the activities section, is it OK to just put "Please see attached list" on the form and then attach the list? Or should I summarize my activities on the form AND attach a more detailed list?

We didn't have a typewriter, so kids printed out onto a sheet of paper and pasted this very neatly to the app. As for the activities section, definitely summarize on the form so they can get the quick glance they want, and also attach a list.

I think it's fine to write it by hand if you have legible handwriting. Sometimes it feels more personal that way.

OK, this may seem like a dumb question, but what do they want when they ask for your "favorite recording"?? Your favorite song or album or what?? I don't know if they have this online but there is a section on the paper app. that asks for a lot of your favorite things and I really think those are the hardest questions!! Thanks for any help you can give me!

i put my favorite album for that question

I put my favorite song.

Favorite album here, but I'd never thought about it either way.

Favorite album :)--
Journey's "The Essential Journey"...buahaha

What's the purpose of that "favorites" section on the Princeton app?
