Questions

After the deadline, can I send a better SAT score to Columbia or is the one before the deadline permanent?

Can my scores of 690 Math and 690 Verbal with an essay of a score of 8 be “good enough”?

I think I did bad on the Subject Tests because my teachers stunk and I couldn’t find the Princeton Reviews… will my application be discarded because of these low scores?

for ED they'll take Nov. scores but since they give out decisions before Dec. scores are tallied, that's probably it unless you get a defer. As for RD, you have until Dec. date, I think, plenty of time.

it's all relative. It seems a little on the low end to me but it could be balanced out with steller grades or ECs

an app discarded because of bad SAT IIs? Again, same as 2, those scores are just a part of your application which they'll take it as a whole. I highly doubt they'll discard an entire app due to one part. But depending on which deadling you need, you can still retake in Dec.

The deadline for what? There's an application deadline and a deadline for the last day you can take the SAT.

Those scores are on the low end, but not absurdly low by any means. "Good enough" to be guaranteed admission? Of course not. But perhabs good enough to have some iota of hope.

What do you mean, "I couldn't find the Princeton Reviews?" Excuses don't really fly. How low are we talking?

while you're here, Columbia2002, about SAT IIs, I'm taking Math II, French w/ Listening, and Chem. What's a decent score range to shoot for...750+?

I'm sure you know that higher is better! French probably won't make or break you. If your SAT and GPA are solid, you'll have a bit more leeway on Math and Chem.

I know, I know, but you understand the nit-pickiness of application jitters. I have an irrational desire to know exactly what my chances are (although I haven't gotten to the point of doing a "what are my chances" post yet.)

as for SAT solid...er, 750V, 780M, 740W? I'll refrain from commenting on my GPA

Your SATs are clearly "good enough." I wish I knew the exact numbers, but I would doubt that high-1500's are admitted at a better rate than low-1500's. It is still a crap shoot, and you'll need to impress them with your essay, ECs, etc.

ah, the essay. I'm usually an decent essay writer but I'm having trouble with the broad prompt. I need something to focus on.

But anyway, thank you for all the advice so far! You have no idea how helpful it's been. I'm ED to Columbia, so it's my most stressful app...I want everything to go smoothly.
