Does it help that I am first generation and a low income student.
So I ended up getting a 19 the first time I took the ACT which is bad I know; but I ran out of the time a lot so I have been practicing with the RED-BOOK. I also took the SAT yesterday so I am hoping I improve my scores (I took a prep-class and used the blue book to practice). I hope my second set of scores for the ACT are better than a 19!

It wont help enough if your scores are that low.

If you are still thinking about the list you posted here[/url">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1658893-am-i-a-pretty-good-candidate-for-ivy-league-schools-or-just-any-prestigious-school-in-general-p1.html"]here, nothing can offset that score. If you are looking at other schools now, you should post a new list.

And please don’t bump quite so much. :)

@WasatchWriter I am but I also still have a lot of those schools on my list. I believe I did well the second time I took both tests so I am not freaking out yet. I also have safety schools/test optional schools too. Thanks for your feedback though!

bump

Currently, your ACT is too low to even consider your background for:1. Brown University
2. Dartmouth College
3. University of Pennsylvania
4. University of Chicago
5. Williams College
6. University of Virginia(even if you are an instate)
7. Tufts University
8. Pomona College

Are you a finalist? If you have better score, lets say 30+, I am very sure you will get in somewhere.

I know right now my ACT is the only thing that is holding me back. I am not a finalist, but I can still apply as a non-finalist to those schools etc. I was hoping the second time that I would get a 25, and then the last time I take it I could get a 29-30. That is my goal @paul2752

My list actually changed and it is this now:
- Columbia
- UPenn
- UVA
- Brown
- Yale
- UChicago
- Northwestern
- Stanford

Those are crazy hard schools to get into I know! @paul2752

Youre not getting into any of those with that score.

I am retaking the tests^^^ @Wizard09

Even with a 30 act score you are still no where near getting in.

No chance

Are you just picking schools based on how hard they are to get into/if they have a big name? If so that’s a bad way of thinking

It’s important to understand that you should try to attend a school where you can do the work, period. These schools are not arbitrary when they consider scores and grades. They do so because the academic rigor is intense. You seem to be choosing schools on the basis of prestige/ ranking. You will do yourself no favors if you cannot handle the work. Better to find true academic matches where you can distinguish yourself. The fact that so many here on CC strive to get into schools that are beyond their capabilities is worrisome. Setting high goals is laudable, but setting reasonable ones is far more so. To this end, I highly recommend you winnow your list to two of those high reach schools, at the most, and find more matches and safeties.

Yeah I do agree with you @gondalineNJ I have a list of safeties and matches. I believe that it won’t hurt me to apply to those schools through QB. They are great schools and QB is a slight advantage so if I can raise my test scores I think I will be okay. I know it is very difficult to get into these schools, so I have been practicing because I know the college process is not a joke.

@SammyV6 thanks
@Wizard09 omg thanks :D

Just sharing my honest and realistic opinion! :)>-
