if you have a computer, you have access to music

Music is not permitted after BCT.

By the way TacticalNuke, nice thread on the edodo. I expected that you would get nothing more than KYS responses, but there is a lot of good advice there.

what are my chances if i have a 3.5 unweighted 3.9 weighted gpa with all honors and AP classes, go to an elite high school, 2 varsity letters, make eagle in scouting join civil air patrol, join student council, and NHS, have 100+ community service hours and have SAT scores from 1900-2100? please tell me. I know that was a "run-on" sentence.

Futureusafapilot, your info looks respectable, but no one can tell you exactly what your chances are unless you apply. There's no specific formula we can use to plug that all into in order to tell you.

Concerning hygeine products, that's limited to pads/tampons. You'll be issued everything else.

No need to bring tennis shoes. Don't bother bringing socks, either. You'll be issued more than you'll know what to do with.

Regarding music, don't plan on being allowed to listen to it for quite some time. In response to the comment "if you have a computer, you have access to music" - while that may be true, why would you be planning on ways to get around the system and its rules before you even arrive here?

Yeah, falcon, there is a TON of good information on that edodo thread. It would behoove all future cadets to read it very carefully.

A link for the uninformed:

The first couple pages are, err, a warm-up to the good information. Hehe. Start about the middle of the second page.

I do not advocate people going to E-Dodo when they are new to USAFA, let alone before they even get there. (Hornetguy and I had a discussion about this when we visited during orientation.) This is because it's easy to adopt the cynicism there as your own, as opposed to getting to know the Academy yourself and developing it on your own if you do (which I don't advocate, either, but if you are bound and determined to become cynical, I'm not going to stop you from making that choice).

I know a lot of you are going to go there anyway, so in light of that, I'm just caution you to take things there with a grain of salt.

Well like I said, the first couple pages aren't really worth reading because they're along the lines of "kill yourself". However, most of the rest is very good information.

Thanks for answering my questions. I pretty much knew what the answers would be, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Does anyone know anything about the Foreign Area Studies major??

what is a summer seminar? how do you qualify to go>?

It is an interdisciplinary major, it includes foreign language, history and poli sci. This could be Asia/Africa/Mid East.

The Academy offers two one-week sessions to experience the academic environment, physical requirements, team building, and leadership skills necessary to become an Air Force Academy cadet.*

The application period is open January 1 through March 15 of your Junior year in high school.

*For more complete information, go to the USAFA website at academyadmissions.com/admissions/summerseminar/.

Listen to UNcynical on edodo.....that's all i can say. Her words are good wisdom lol.

Where do we store our bags that doolies arn't suppose to access during beast? I'm not looking for a specific location for other less than honorable reasons...but I want to know if they'll be secure.

Don't take anything valuable not only does the academy not advise it, but my brother lost a couple valuables when he stored his stuff during basic. Have it sent to you after basic or you can even leave it with your sponsors if you know who they are, which is what i'm doing.

Is it possible that they lose the whole bag?

Possible, yes. Probable, no. It's possible that they get misplaced, but they usually eventually turn up. As long as your cadre take good accountability of your bags and put them in their designated area, they'll be fine. You really shouldn't worry. You'll have very little in it anyway. As it's already be mentioned, have valuable/meaningful items sent to you after BCT or kept at a sponsor's house until then.

Could a cadet bring a pre paid postage USPS "Priority Mail" box with them to Inprocessing? This would provide room for their cell phone, wallet and watch.
We could then re-mail the items back towards the end of BCT.

Any thoughts?

"Could a cadet bring a pre paid postage USPS "Priority Mail" box with them to Inprocessing?"

That's not logistical. For the watch, I'd just wear a cheap one (that wouldn't be a huge loss if it was lost). If he brings a cell phone and does what is is supposed to do with it, it should be fine. I'm not sure what else would be in the wallet besides an ID and some money - I could be wrong, but these may be able to be kept during BCT (locked in his lock drawer in his room).

Is bringing a sleeping bag to BCT allowed? If yes, is it recommended? Thanks.
