Questions

You cannot bring a sleeping bag.

geez.... we're going to basic training not a sleepover at our friends house

haha. i wish it was as easy as a sleepover. but yeah, you can't really have much as far as I know... i guess part of the training is letting go to everything you used to like.

Coming into BCT all we really need is our boots, any papers we're supposed to bring, and the clothes on our back, right?

What all should we have sent after BCT?

Right now my list is just cell phone and food (protein bars, individual packets of some sort of juice that doesn't need to be in a fridge) and that's about it.

On the topic of foods and drinks, what types of food and drinks are we allowed to have in the academy dorms? Do they have refrigerators? Can we have bottled waters or gatorades, etc.

My brother graduated 09 and it was either sophomore or junior year, i forget which, he was allowed to either get a fridge or a tv. He bought a fridge and then bought a computer screen with a tv card built in to get around the system. Fridges are pretty cheap because you can just buy them from the seniors graduating who want to get rid of them.

I have a quick question... My liason officier was looking through his website on candidate informatino and under my name it said that I was a pre-junior and my application was recommended and to have my 40/60 has to be sent in by August 31, 2006... does anyone know what this information means?

Whats up with cell phones?

First cadets are told NOT to bring cell phones. Then AOG B&B has said they need to stay in contact with their host via cell phone. (flight delays, locating each other at the airport.....)

Where will their few personal items be locked up?

Specific information should get to appointees/parents via some means concerning cell phones. While it is true that the pendulum is swinging back to fewer/later privileges (pre-Agenda for Change), I thought they deemed cell phones as necessary, not for the "fun" aspect ofthem but due to safety concerns.

Personal items will be locked up in a room near their respective squadrons, I'd imagine. They could go in an officer's office but most likely a locked room.

A lot of people are asking for my PO box #. Should I tell them to wait until after basic to send me things (besides letters)? Lots of moms want to or insist on sending me cookies and stuff :)

Have people send you plenty of letters. Have people send you other stuff too... if you are suicidal. In other words, NO. Tell them to wait until after BCT when you can enjoy cookies, etc.

Question about plane travel to the Academy before BCT- did everyone get plane tickets with the huge packet that came, or did it come seperately? I finally got that packet TODAY, and I noticed it didn't have anything dealing with the travel out there (I assumed that a ticket/itinerary would be provided with this packet).

Mine came separately. Glad you got the packet, FINALLY.

There should be a form to request a plane ticket in one of those packets.

Yeah, that was in the original appointment packet (I checked that I needed a plane ticket). In the Instructions to Appointees booklet, it just says that if I don't recieve the itinerary by June 20th, then I need to call the travel office.
