Hi, I have a few questions about certain topics.
- Does UF take your major into consideration during freshman admission and do they see your senior first semester grades?
- What is the take on IA? I've have had a little bit of interest in it but I've heard a lot of negative things from people.
- No*** and No.
- IA is only a good choice if you're interested in taking classes in the Spring/Summer (and working internships, taking online only classes, etc., in the Fall), if you're interested in one of the IA majors, and if you want to complete the IA Innovation Minor. If so, it's an option worth looking into and admissions is easier than standard freshman admissions. It is NOT easy to switch out of IA into a normal program, so I wouldn't recommend selecting IA as a backdoor into admissions.
*** If you complete your AA while in High School, and you’re not admitted via normal freshman admissions, UF admissions will send your application to the college of the major you’ve selected. You’ll then be considered as a “transfer” student by that college. In this case, your major would matter, as some majors are more competitive (for transfer students) than others. In other words, HS students with an AA will get a second chance at admissions, based on their major.
