To any current CMU students: how about telling us about the university? What are the best things about CMU, and what are the worst? How are the dorms, the food, and everyday life? How accessible are the professors (though, naturally, I understand that this'll vary from prof. to prof.)? What about undergraduate research opportunities; are there plenty? I'm particularly interested in hearing about SCS, but any information, tips, or advice you guys could offer would be awesome.

I suggest you spend some time reading old threads. I'll bet that 90% of your questions are answered quite thoroughly.

I agree with cmonyk. It's possible to get involved in research freshman year in SCS< but for most people, it's not really practical until sophomore year. Profs are reasonably accessible. The intro programming group has a massive amount of office hours/TA office hours and stuff.
