I have a few questions. The baseball coach at Amherst called me the other day and said they ranked me as an A academic candidate and with his help I should be able to get in. I’m really excited but I’m not sure whether to think ok it’s a sure thing or don’t talk about it or else you’ll jinx ur chances. Is anyone familiar with their policy in regards to athletes? Also, I know Amherst does not accept AP credit but I could not find any information on which courses they allow you to forego based on APs. Does anyone know this information or where I can find it?

I dont know about their policy on athletes, but on most of the department webpages they say something about being able to skip certain classes with certain AP scores.

Thanks, I'm not sure where I am ranked on his list but I know he his helping me. He told me on the phone "with my help you should get in," although he didn't tell me my exact chances. They sound very good but I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me if it was almost a sure thing. He also wanted to know if Amherst was still my first choice and I told him it is. Yes I have met with him previously and he has seen me play. My basic stats are:

SAT - 1460
SAT II - 800 780 670 730
GPA - 3.85-3.9ish (hardest courses)
Captain of two sports teams

Your stats are great. The key thing is that he wanted to know if Amherst was still your first choice. In my opinion, that means he will really help you with admissions. He asked you that because he wouldn't waste one of his "tips" on you if you probably weren't going to come. I would say you are 95% in.

I agree with Wildchild'smom. Not only would he not waste a tip on you, he wouldn't be saying what he's saying if he wasn't confident you'll be in. He may not even have to use a tip at your academic level - don't be too sure his help is necessary... my hunch is that he knows you're in and he wants you to tip toward Amherst, and thinks with his call, he may be able to sway you! I assume you were truthful about it being your first choice, so I say, congratulations!
