Questions

I am considering both Binghamton and Geneseo, but I’m having a hard time deciding. They both have their pros and cons.

How is the social life outside of parties? Is there anything to do?

Are the students generally liberal or conservative… and how politically active are they?

How are the anthropology and sociology departments there? I also heard that there is an experimental film program there… how is it?

Are the students generally quirky? Do many of the students have alternative tastes… in music and/or film? Are some of the students idealists or counterculture intellectuals? Or is most of the student body just pretty normal? In other words, how would you describe the student body?

How would you describe the campus and the city itself?

I live in Binghamton, and will be attending Bing in fall of 07 as a freshman. I can answer some of your questions.

outside of parties.. yes. They have many groups and clubs you can join. They also have something called 'Late Night Binghamton' on campus (you can read about it at binghamton.edu) where there's bowling, ping pong, and stuff like that right on campus.

not sure.

not sure.

The student body is pretty diverse.. there's a lot of white and Asian people.. but you can find every race there. That's about as much as I can tell ya about the body right now.

The campus is really nice. Two of the dorm buildings, College in the Woods and Mountainview, are very, very nice for college dorms. The city is alright -- there are plenty of bars nearby, but also a pretty good shopping mall, movie theater, Wal-Mart, among other stores, all of which the bus can take you to, for free..

Any more questions, feel free to ask.

Ah, free bus service is nice. I'd like to know more about the city... are there any artsy/independent film theaters there? Is there some sort of arts community? And how are the locals towards the students? Thanks.

I dunno about theaters, but the Harpur College of Arts & Sciences is very, very good at BU. The locals are cool with the students I suppose, even though the campus is basically like a separated community from the city it is so different.
