I have a question. After you get the apps on August, do you send out the recommendations with it? Does it say on the apps that you need to get recommendations? or no. If so, how many recommendations do I need?

You get the three recs with the app. One english, one math, and one physics/chemistry teacher, which are all required. There's one optional one for your employer also I believe.

is every year different or is it going to be same? So should I get the recommendations from these teachers now?

You may want to give them a heads-up that you'll be asking them for a recommendation letter. Do not get the letters from them yet though because they will likely be sent directly to West Point or sealed so that you cannot see it.

oh so I don't send the recommendations with the applications?

would it really matter which english teacher (as in freshmen english, sophomore, so on) you get a rec from?

After you provide your teachers with the forms that come with the application packet, your teachers will mail the recommendations themselves. You will not be sending them.

The Class of 2011 application included recommendation forms and envelopes that the applicants gave to their Junior or Senior teachers. The instructions specifically asked for Junior or Senior Lit, Math and Science teacher recomendations.

It may be different this year, they are switching to online apps like Air Force.

does west point look at your AP score?

Yes, with the new online application the process will be different this year. I believe everything will be done online including teacher recommendations. Recommendations will still be required from from the same sources: English, Math and Chemistry/Physics teacher.

So the class of 2011 had the last hard application process, eh? The corps has!! And I'm not even there yet! :P

Yup - goodbye handwritten essays...

wait I am a junior right now, and this year apps going to be online? so the teachers have to fill out the recommendations online?

How many recs can u submit bcs I am involved with many orgs and etc.

Peteyflow,
Wait for the instructions to come and then just follow the directions. Your nomination applications and recommendations will still be paper based, your WP one will be online (like many universities today).
Stelas,
You are required to send recommendations from a English, Math and Physics/Chemistry teacher. This is to make sure you are proficient in these subjects. You can send in additional references, but the point is that 20 great character references will not outweigh poor academic references.

Edit: not implying that your academic references will be weak just making the point since many "weaker" (academically) candidates try and compensate by sending a ton of other references.

so basically you are saying you can send as many recommendations as you can right?

You CAN, but I think that any more than 2 extras, besides the required teacher ones, would be overkill. I mean, if you send in a ton of rec letters, wouldn't that kinda raise a red flag that your trying to divert attention away from big weakness or something, or that you truly don't feel confident that you are qualified? I sent in the 3 teacher forms and that was it. You'll be spending plenty of time getting rec letters for your nominations.
