are likely letters only given out to high scores?
did anyone who is sub 1400 or even sub 1500 SAT I and sub 2100 SAT II and not an athelete(not recruited) get a likely letter?
does no likely letter mean no acceptance?

only about 500 likelys get sent, but 2000 are accepted. Clearly, three fourths of those accepted didn't get likely letters, but still got in! so don't worry about it, there's yet hope.

but the 2000 you are talking about includes the ED and the EA people right?
so if we subtract the 1000 accepted during ED and EA
and then subtract the likelies
then there are only 500 spots left?

nope...

397 ED +500 Likelies = 897

slightly over 2000 acceptances overall
Still more than 1103 acceptances will go out without likley letters. It ain't over until april 2 then there is the waitlist.

thank a lot sybbie, are you an applicant too?

No, parent of current 08 we sat in your shoes last year waiting. She got a likely letter in March. On a side note, I got an acceptance from NYU on last week , doctoral program in counseling psychology, so yes I know what it is to wait for a decision. Mailed in my intent to enroll

CONGRATS, sybbie! From the counseling you've done for all of us, I know you'll readily succeed. Congratulations on your acceptance; you deserve every bit of it.

That's so perfect, Sybbie! I can't think of a better program for you, and I'm so glad you got in where you wanted to go. My big sister got her Master's from NYU (she's now at Columbia for her doctoral work), and she loved the school. I visited too, but NYC just wasn't for me.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

(Usually it's green for Dartmouth- today it's purple for NYU :))

Elizabeth,

I got my masters at NYU also.
I totally understand because I told my daughter don't apply to NYU (she really wanted more of a sense of community)
