questions...

I was wondering how hard it would be as a freshman Biology major to get theres classes and to get a "B" or higher in them.

i need to take:

-2 Academic Writing/Composition courses [not English literature courses]

-Biology 1 and 2 with lab

-Statistics

-Chemistry 1 & 2

thank you!

All of them at the same time? You would fail miserably.

Yeah, you kinda don't really know what you're talking about yet, it seems. We don't have classes named Biology 1, etc. Why don't you attend orientation first? Unless you're asking this while still trying to decide whether you're coming to UCLA. In that case, it's kind of silly to decide whether you're going to a college based on how easily you'll get a certain grade.

Unless you're one of them. In that case, we have enough here. Go away.

Grr, premeds...

Pink, aren't you premed...

hey this is on the same subject and i thought id ask, im so lame because i read all of the general ed and such and does anyone think this is a hard schedule. Just wondering.

Poli Sci 40
Span 25
GE Cluster M1A
Ling 20

Gosh sometimes i am convinced i have no life

hard glare

mtbun,

you won't get into polisci 40. it will fill up even before frosh have orientation... so scratch that!

minus the polisci 40, i think three classes is plenty enough your first quarter. not sure what cluster that is, but clusters are generally a lot of work. not sure what spanish 25 is either. ling 20... beware. there's really no good profs (try bruinwalk.com to see what i mean) and the subject itself is intensely nitpicky. be SURE that you want to commit yourself to learning about phonemes and nittygritty pronunciation before you sign up for that one... if you are not interested in linguistics, i'd suggest ling 1 instead (if you're going for a GE).

thanks liyama179, i'm somewhat interested in linguistics but i may consider ling 1 instead. Yes it was for GE credit. The GE cluster is the Global Environment cluster. Well i'd be happy with 3 classes. Spanish 25 is Advanced Spanish and Comp (I'm not worried I have always excelled in spanish) I have two more questions:

Would AP US Gov and Pol Credit Cover Poli Sci 40 anyway?

How is Stats 10 or Poli Sci 50 (instead of Ling 20 or 1)?

Thanks

I know Spanish 25 is pretty hard to get into since there is only 15 spots in each class my roommate with sophmore standing and priority couldn't even get in...

Stats 10.
I took AP stat and got a 5 last year.
so, i just do homework and never went to lectures.

UCLA is the school I am going to before I do my guaranteed transfer to Cornell and those are the classes they ask for sooo that's why I asked and I am a Bio major.

Dang

I really want to get into that class. Oh well, ill still try. I have some backups too. But thanks for the advice yall

AP classes don't "cover" polisci. what they do cover is something called the american history and institutions requirement, which you satisfied in high school with a gov class.

have you looked at the GE requirements for college of letters and sciences? go there. you will need 10 of them, and no, high school classes do not count (all you can get out of is writing 1, which isn't a GE but is a university requirement).

go here UCLA General Catalog 2007-08: COLLEGE OF LETTERS AND SCIENCE and pay attention to the two outlined boxes. you need to take a class in each category- polisci 40 fulfills society and culture (social analysis). however, you have your pick of classes to fulfill it, doesn't need to be ps40.

how do you know what class fulfills what GE? http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/GE/GE-LSFr07-08.pdf

also, starting around june you can go onto my.ucla and click on class planner. this will let you play around with possible schedules for fall, and tell you which ones are still open. come up with several backups (looks like your cluster and a ling class are the only likely ones). i suggest 3 classes, as will your OC. 3 and a fiat lux is a nice start. if you're thinking about a ling major or minor, stick with ling 20 as ling 1 doesn't count. if it's a passing interest, ling 1 will be just fine.

i was just like you 2 years ago, going nuts trying to figure out the requirements. kudos for planning ahead!

thanks.

yeah i knew that i couldnt use ap credits so i was talking about major requirements (since i need to do the prerequisites for poli sci as i want to switch into the premajor asap from undeclared). I agree with you on ling 1 now.

thanks for all your advice. are you going to be a junior next year? i guess ill see you at ucla then!

oh and sorry for calling you lilyama. cant distinguish my nasals as you can see.

lol

lame

You got into cornell as a guaranteed transfer, huh?
Yeah i got it too but screw it, its not worth it.
UCLA FTW.

Yeah why go to cornell out in the middle of nowhere when you can go to ucla in the greatest city ever?

I actually got into both and have been trying where to figure out where to go...
good luck with that

liyama... hmm. no ;)

yes, i'll be a third year. didn't know you wanted PS40 for polisci major... so yes, you and half the school will have to take it at some point. whenever you get a good signup time, use your first pass to try getting in!
