Questions!

I am a High School senior, I live in Texas. I plan on going to a community college (TCC) and then transfer into UT. I have a few questions though.

My GPA is really low...a 2.6, because I never really made anything above a C in math classes. Everything else were high B's and A's. So I'm pretty sure I have no chance of getting into UT at the moment. Right?

Next, does your GPA start over when you go to college? How much do colleges focus on GPA, with transfer students and what are they looking for?

I havent taken the SAT or ACT yet, but Im taking the Accuplacer first, in case I dont get into UT..which is looking bad at the moment.

How much can you raise GPA in one year of highschool?

My counselor couldnt help me much with these questions...so I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could help me out. THANKS!

yes, 2.6 is way out of reach for UT-Austin.

From what I've heard, transfer apps are judged FAR more heavily on your college GPA to date, NOT your high school GPA. They want to see that you have made the absolute best of your surrounding educational circumstances, that you've succeeded.

How much can you raise it? Not much. Well, not enough. Even if you made a 4.0 unweighted in your Senior year, that's still not gonna cut it with 3 years of a 2.6.

But get those math grades up in college!

Thanks :)

To be honest, I didnt think GPA meant much my other years, until now. I used to be in honors...AP...pre-IB classes, but got out because my counselor told me I would get A's in regular classes.

That's good to know though, I can get a fresh start. And yeah, I may have to get a tutor for math...I dont know..
