Hello all, this is my first post. I am the father of a AFA candidate. I really hope he makes it as this is life-long dream for him. He is into technology and is excited by AF tech and by AFA ranking among colleges. His major would be Computer Science, if accepted.

I have a few questions for the community here:
- Is it wise to sign up for AFROTC as a plan B?
- He has 2 nominations, but still not not an appointee. Does that mean those slots are already filled and now we have to wait until March for a miracle?

Thanks

1, I'd apply for AFROTC for plan B if his ultimate goal is to be an AF officer. Pima will say more on this :) In short, it's also a great option.

2, Once he gets a nomination, his packet is reviewed by the admissions board, which meets once a week. they will continue reviewing packets 'til June, I believe. Don't worry, admissions are rolling.

These are the short answers, I'm sure someone else will give you more detail...

If he did not apply for and receive an AFROTC scholarship, he can just sign up for ROTC at registration at his college, if they offer it. Did he apply for an AFROTC scholarship, b/c they do have an acceptance date

Each candidate gets reviewed by the board when they submit the completed package. The appt can not be given until everybody on the slate has received their WCS. Thus, if everyone has a WCS, but candiidate number 9 on the slate has not submitted their CFA no appt has been given out for the MOC. If they rank high enough they go into the National pool and can be offered an appt through there. March is not the miracle month, instead it is the mass mailing month. The bulk (1000+) are sent out in March. What you are seeing are LOAs, slates with principal and completed slates that the AFA has determined that the WCS is so high nobody will be able to touch them, even with new CFA's, 7th semester grades and new ECS.

Good luck, just remember the wait is almost over

Thanks missmuff. He is certainly dedicated to becoming an AF officer. He's even talking about enlisting then attending OTS 3 years later as a plan C.

Thank you bullet. I don't know all the acronyms, such as WCS, WOC, or ECS. I do know what AFA and CFA stands for... nevertheless, your explanation is very helpful (I get the gist of it anyway).

Oh yes, and he did apply for the ROTC scholarship. That interview was last Tuesday.

WCS= Whole Candidate Score.
MOC = Member of Congress
ECs = Extra Curriculars

The WCS is made up of certain parts that can be revisited, only that part will be rescored. New CFA (only the AFA can ask for it) will be the only part relooked at, new gpa, only PAR (ACAD recs), become the team capt, more pts assigned to the EC.

If he has joined something new, raised his gpa or SAT, or received any kind of award, update the file and he will be re-scored. The one with the highest wins the MOC appt. for that slate.

He's re-taking the SAT tomorrow.

will the results be there before 3/1?

They should be. But we were looking to pay an "expedite" fee just to be safe.
