I was just wondering of you guys think that it will affect my transfer process if I had a horrible drop in my GPA my senior year of HS due to a huge period of depression.

I'm planning to transfer probably after 5 semesters of community college to an engineering school. I have a lot of the best ones in mind. I'm shooting for the sky really. I already checked and the best Math classes my CC will have to offer (Calc 3, Linear Alg., Diff EQ) will only be enough for 3 semesters of the amount of time I'm going to be there. I plan to take the SAT next year (2006) my highest ACT score was 27 but that was at the beggining of my junior year in high school so I am sure I can do much better. I graduated with a 3.4+ Gpa (with honors) from my HS but I'm planning to stay as long as I can in my CC so that my high school transcript is not looked at as much.

My only questions are: What do you think I should do in terms of EC's and other stuff?

I should say a bit more about myself.
I'm a Mexican-American. Moved to the U.S. 6 years ago. Neither of my parents finished college. My mother only finished some of her nursing degree and my father some of his engineering degree. My sister and my brother both finished college but only with a degree that's not respected much in the U.S.

My brother's degree was Computer Systems Engineering but he was laid off after only 1 and a half years of working for Kellog's (cereal company) back in Mexico. He came here and only works for some consulting and small gigs but nothing fancy. My sister does other Accounting stuff too but nothing big.

I was wondering if any of you had a suggestion for where to apply. I know I can achieve a 4.0 at the CC if I really try but I'm also wondering what activities should I join and other stuff. I know I will be in Choir, Student Leadership and Steppers (Hip-Hop Dance Club). But I dunno if I should join other stuff that looks good for science/engineering. Also what would be a good competitive score for the SAT (I know 2400 is obvious but I'm speaking of the lower ranges like 2000 or 2100.).

My hopefuls are UIUC, U of Wisconsin, for the local aspect. But I'll really like to give a shot to the big names like MIT, Stanford, Michigan.

P.S. Anyone admitted to big names for Engineering could give me some advice too. I'll appreciate it greatly.
