hey i'm from georgia and i have some questions bout USC. How difficult is it to get into USC out of state? Is USC typically considered a "party school" and how important are academics to the students on campus? What would you say the avg SAT for USC is? thanks

USC is a private school (def. NOT part of the UC system), so being out-of-state makes no difference on your chances.

The avg. SAT is somewhere around 1350. (old SAT system, of course)

As for the "party school" aspect, that is something I hope to find out for myself soon.

hahahha thanks

Hi redski. :)

Harry: For the class of 2009 (my class), the average SAT was 1400 out of 1600 SAT (like 2100 on the new SAT). The average high school GPA was a 4.0.

The acceptance rate is around 25%. This year, about 22,000 kids that applied to USC were rejected.

"Is USC typically considered a "party school""

It has the best football team in the nation and has a strong and vibrant Greek system. It's also close to Los Angeles and has a lot of wealthy students. So yeah, they pull good parties there.

BUT... most USC students are still very bright, ambitious and talented (and many would be considered very low income). It is such a huge school that you will find plenty of people who want to party, and plenty of people who are very serious and would prefer to study often.

wow i didnt realize the avg SAT was so high. The CB website and the PR book say that the avg sat is around like 1350 or so.

yeah thats last years figures ... theyve told us multiple times in the few times that we've been there that this year it wsa 1400 and 4.01 or something

Puts my 1330 to even more shame :o

1330 is a great score.

USC wouldn't have admitted you if they didn't think you were good enough. :) So, obviously, you are.

Oh, and about Parkside dorms! I'm going to be there too, except I'll be in an eight-person section (I think you said you'd be in a six-person). We'll probably see each other eating in the cafeteria or in the halls or something.

I had both lower sat and gpa (1370 and 3.8)then the average and I still got in, 1400 is just an average, so don't be intimated.

Awesome Peals! I'll cya around next month!

Av. SAT is not a 1400. Of admitted students, it is 1385. Of students who decide to matriculate, it is 1350.

Evidence: USC, http://afaweb.esd.usc.edu/USC-AFA/upload_images/Freshman%20Profile%2020041.pdf

o sweet thanks for the info!

that is for last year's class, buddy.

yeah ... thats for last year .. entering class of 2004

im from georgia. would geographic diversity help any?

The statistics I provided is the most recent one USC has put out to the public. I will gladly believe that the SAT average is now higher, but I have yet to see it demonstrated in any documentation.

I believe (and hope) that the documentation for this year's entering class will be released in late August - early September.

Anyone know if this year's stats are available online?

...you shouldn't feel bad about getting a score below the average...i think part of the reason why it's so high is probably because a lot of the ...SAT scholarship people (forgot the name sorry)..the ones with full/half tuition...decided to go to USC. those scores do bring the average up
