I chose to transfer to UChicago over Carleton and Swarthmore, and now I am having major second thoughts. I want a well-rounded education, for instance, so the idea of the core had not originally bothered me. However, I already had an exceptional high school education where I learned to write research papers in social studies. I'm afraid the core will be too easy and I'll feel like I'm wasting my time. Also, I am interested in independent study, and have recently heard there are not many opportunities for independent study before the BA paper. Finally, I know UChicago is liberal-artsy, but REALLY now, do you feel you get as much personal attention as you could want from professors?

the student-faculty ratio is 4:1. Only Caltech claims a better ratio, 3:1.
if you really want attention, especially in the upper level classes, you will get it.
all the profs are incredibly accessible and talented.

I know you have only completed 1 year at UChicago, but could you respond to my other two questions? Do you know anyone who transferred out of UChicago? If so, why?

My brother did. He had a severe reaction formation after his first winter; ...he transferred to the University of Hawaii! No kidding.
