people send the weirest things with their apps

some people end up with insanely thick files . . . and then there are people that send stuff that doesn't fit in files - makes the entire office a complete mess hahaha

My son attends the C school but he says that the premed students are the happiest hard working students he has ever seen.....and the science library is amazing.....

errr, just curiuous, whats 'Staunton'

It's a small city 30 miles to the north of Lexington.

What you said about being a nondrinker caught my eye. I'm a highschool junior looking at colleges and have been scared away from W&L because princeton review ranked it as a top party school with lots of liquor. I too am committed to not drinking and wonder if I would fit in/ have a social life at W&L without alcohol.

trigirl1115, several friends of mine don't drink and they get by just fine here at W&L so no worries,, although drinking is very much prevalent here it is by no means a necessity

himalayandreams - staunton is where the nearest train station is, you can catch trains there for Chicago, DC, Philadelphia and New York

Why not Davidson? It has all of the above

trigirl, the biggest problem I think you'll have is your first week here, which is orientation week. That week, you'll proly feel like you're the only one who doesn't drink. But it isn't true! There's a good number of us who abstain from drinking. What is even better is that at W&L, people respect your decision to not drink, and no one has forced me to drink or thought me any less of a person. I'm glad you're concerned about it: there's no point in going to a school to get a degree if you're going to trade in your convictions. Luckily, at W&L you don't have to (provided, of course, you're a person who sticks to their beliefs, which I assume you are).

Well said James, well said indeed.

What is the interviewing like for the GWHS? Also, is there a laundry service of any kind? Thanks.

The interviewing is tough in one word, so be prepared. I don't know if I'm allowed to discuss it in any detail so I will take the safe road aand won't.

As for the laundry service - there is one but I don't trust them (for good reason) and it's quite expensive.

Why don't you trust the laundry service? Also, do you have any idea how expensive it is?

I don't remember the cost, I just remember it being ridiculously more than what you pay if you do your own laundry.

I don't trust it because they tend to misplace clothes and they do it often. This leads to some funny stories and a lot of lost clothes.

will W&L email me about what is missing or a checklist of all materials when I submit my apps???

Not that I know of (I applied last year and I haven't heard anything about it in the admissions office). However, you are free to CALL admissions and ask them about it and they can easily look it up for you so I recommend you do so if you are worried you are missing something like a teacher rec, SAT scores or your transcript.

Hello all, my name is Lauren and I live in PA, but go to a NY High School. I applied EDII and am very excited about it. My father graduated from the W&L Law school back in the day. Just wondering if anyone knew anything about legacies and how good my chaces are of getting in! ...

Great Recs
Had an interview..
......and father is an alum here, so that cant hurt :)

Hey Lauren, what school do you go to?

Your stats sound good to me (with the exception of your SAT scores, which are on the low end for W&L) and the legacy should help, although I don't know if it helps as much if your father attended law school and not the undergrad program - though I would assume it would.

I attend Vestal High School. Yeah, I did know that my SAT's were low for W&L but the rest of my app, I think, is pretty good. W&L is my top choice (need I say reach) thats why I decided to go EDII. Thanks for the quick reply!

Or your top choice after W&M according to your other post? Be honest, it's a big deal here ;)

I think you have a good chance at W&L but you need that extra punch, something to set you apart and make you memorable - I hope your essays reflect something like that. W&L and W&M have fairly similar standards I believe but you may have more of a shot at W&L because of the legacy status.

Lauren, are you planning on playing lacrosse?
