Questions

Hi,
I have many questions regarding the Common Application and I hope you will be able to help me.
I am applying to a university under EA and have already paid the application fee and sent my SAT scores but I have not submitted my application or college-specific supplement yet.
1. I want to send a transcript from my home university where I have taken courses for credit. I
have it on paper so shall I mail it via postal service or fax it to them? Or is there another
possibility? (the university prefers online app.)
2. Since the tax return (I am applying for financial aid) is not yet available in my country, I want to
send a statement from my moms employer and bank. Again, shall I mail it, fax it or is there
another possibility?
3. If I mail it, what information do I have to include in the cover letter?

THANK YOU very much for your help!

It sounds like you are an international applicant. Many schools allow internationals to submit materials by fax because mail is slow and not always reliable. Check directly with your schools about this. A university transcript can be mailed or faxed and does not need to be submitted online even though you submit the other parts of your application online.

At some point in the process you will need to send an official transcript for your university courses. This will be on special paper and often has an embossed seal. That is something which cannot be faxed, but it is not always required before you are accepted.

On your tax return question, I am confused. Why are you wanting to send a tax return or statement from a parent’s employer? That is not normally required. Are you filling out FAFSA or CSS? If so, you can estimate your EFC now, but should wait until after January 1 to fill out those forms. Are you a US citizen?

If you fax or mail any portions of your application, be sure you include your name, address, high school and common app ID so the schools can properly match all parts of your application.
