I love DePaul thus far. DePaul is located in Lincoln Park, being very close to downtown Chicago while also maintaining that college feel. In terms of getting to and from the city, all you have to do is hop on the el train, which can take you anywhere in Chicago, including the suburbs. Not to mention, DePaul provides the UPass, allowing you to use the CTA buses and trains as much as you please. In terms of Chicago, it’s truly a great city. Coming from Arizona, I was in a similar situation as you, living in warm weather and not experiencing the big city life. Thus far, it’s been truly amazing although I’ve yet to experience the Chicago winter.

I’m living in an apartment so I don’t know much about the dorms, unfortunately :/

In terms of school spirit, DePaul is lacking a bit due to, in my opinion, the poor play of our basketball team. However, being in the big east conference and having just signed a new coach who is a proven winner, you can expect the basketball team to improve dramatically as well as the school spirit. Regarding involvement, DePaul features many different clubs. In the beginning of the year, DePaul hosts an involvement fair which allows you to learn about the different on campus clubs. Additionally, DePaul has a website (Demon Direct) which allows you to browse the different clubs of DePaul.

I’d say there is a good mix of commuters and students staying on campus however I happened to be the only commuter in my freshman discover Chicago course so I’m assuming most students are living on campus nowadays.

Hope this helps and I wish you luck with your college search!
